EMPIRE TAKES CINEMA TO A NEW DIMENSION IN ITS CENTENARY YEAR

Posted Tuesday 03 Jul 2012

The Empire Theatre in Consett is set to launch an exciting new cinema experience next month, with the installation of digital cinema with 3D capabilities.

With the capacity to hold 350 people, the cinema will offer the latest blockbuster films on release, with a new and improved big screen experience. Benefits will include improved quality surround sound, crystal clear imagery, and the latest high-tech eyewear for 3D films.

The cinema’s first 3D film screenings will take place from Friday 3rd August with Ice Age: Continental Drift (U), and The Amazing Spiderman (12a). Other blockbusters due to be shown in the coming weeks include Dr Seuss The Lorax (U), Magic Mike (15) and Disney Pixar’s Brave (PG).

Screenings of films in 2D will also still take place every Tuesday, as an alternative when 3D films are programmed, providing a choice for customers to enjoy cinema in their preferred format. The Empire has also introduced subtitled screenings of films on Wednesday afternoons.

Louise Strong, Venue Manager of the Empire said “We’re looking forward to introducing digital cinema to the Empire next month. It will provide an improved experience for our customers and enables us to programme a great selection of blockbuster films and show them on release. It’s fantastic that this is all happening in the year that we celebrate the centenary of the venue, and we hope people will come along and support us.”

Ticket prices for 2D films are £5.50 full and £4.50 concessions. Tuesday evening screenings are £5 full and £4.50 for concessions. Ticket prices for 3D film screenings will be £7.50 full and £6.50 for concessions, including the use of the specially designed 3D glasses.
